It is with great sadness that Fencing South advise you all of the death of Ted Nye, aged 90.

Ted was a wonderful supporter of fencing and a formidable opponent on the piste. He represented New Zealand in fencing, and had a true passion for the sport. He was a life member of the Claymore Swords Club, and a member of Salle Angelo. We fence the Ted Nye trophy each year in his honour, and the proceeds from that tournament went to charity.

He was a pioneering heart physician, realising the importance of exercise post heart attack, and co-founder of the Phoenix Club. He had a huge number of interests, and was fascinating to talk with. His interests included entymology, languages, and he founded the Antipodean Holmesian Society - studying Sherlock Holmes.

The service of remembrance and celebration for Ted is to be held in St Paul's Cathedral, The Octagon, Dunedin, at 11.00am on Tuesday 7th February. Messages to the Nye family can be left on Ted's page at www.tributes.co.nz.

Ted was a true gentleman, and we will miss him dearly.
